Fake It Till You Make It: digital morphology

2023, Installation

Fake It Till You Make It, detail

The installation is based on a dataset of microscopic images used to train AI to detect “bad bacteria” in vaginal mucus. The AI learns to recognize the boundaries between good and bad companions within the microflora, relying on medically generated input data. Through added elements of optical illusion and the rollage technique applied to a 3D model of the female immune system, the artist explores how the concepts of bodily and environmental boundaries-as well as human and non-human vision-are layered and reproduced within this human–machine diagnostic process.

The project was supported by UMPRUM, SGS fuding.
